Lebanese and Palestinian parties and political forces in Lebanon stand in solidarity with Cuba in the fight against the US blockade.

Invited by Dr. Yahya Ghaddar, Secretary General of Global Gathering in support of the choice of resistance (Tajammo) in Beirut, the Cuban head of mission in Lebanon, Jorge León Cruz, gave a conference on Cuban current affairs, historical links with Arab countries and the policy of aggression and hostility of the US against Cuba.

The conference, held at the Global Gathering headquarters, with the participation of more than 30 personalities, leaders and representatives of the Syrian National Social Party, the Front for the Struggle of Palestine, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Nasserist Popular Organisation, the Party of God, the Free Patriotic Current Party, Heads of Community Organisations, the president of the Palestinian Graduates League and various Lebanese and Palestinian organisations and associations based in Lebanon, showed broad expressions of solidarity with Cuba.

Opening the event, Dr Ghaddar extended a warm welcome to the Cuban Ambassador and praised the resilience of the Cuban Revolution and its solid firmness in the face of the aggressions and the inhuman and criminal blockade imposed by the US against the Cuban people for more than 60 years. He affirmed that Cuba is an exceptional revolutionary example and a school for all liberation movements.

The Cuban diplomat ratified Cuba's commitment to the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, a legitimate reference and paradigm of solidarity throughout the world, and offered a broad explanation of the scenario of evident control of the epidemic due to the excellent work of Cuban scientists, health personnel and social discipline with a profound sense of revolutionary unity.

He also gave an overview of Cuba's historic relations of solidarity with Arab countries and condemned Israel's continued military occupation of Palestinian territory, illegal policies and colonising practices, human rights violations and systematic war crimes that cause immense suffering to the Palestinian people.

He reaffirmed that Cuba has always advocated and will maintain its unrestricted support for the Palestinian cause, for the two-state solution as the only alternative and for the right of the Palestinian people to build their own State within the pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem, as well as its support for the demand for the release of political prisoners and the right of return of Palestinian refugees.

He gave a detailed explanation of the objectives of the US blockade against Cuba, explained the serious damage caused to the Cuban people and its intensification, accentuated in the context of the covid-149 pandemic, and denounced the decision of the US government to exclude the Republic of Cuba from participating in the 9th Summit of the Americas to be held in Los Angeles from 8 to 10 June.

In their respective interventions, the representatives of the political parties and forces present expressed their gratitude for the extensive and up-to-date information offered on Cuba, which they recognised as a paradigm of dignity and resistance in the face of continuous imperialist aggressions and their lackeys.  They also praised the Cuban government and people and ratified their support and solidarity against the blockade and sent their fraternal greetings and congratulations on his birthday to Army General Raúl Castro and greetings and success to President Díaz Canel.

They also highlighted Cuba's unparalleled internationalist solidarity in support of the Arab cause, its decisive selfless support in guaranteeing thousands of scholarships to needy peoples and particularly to the Palestinians and Lebanese, all of which constitutes a true altruistic example that is highly recognised and appreciated by the Arab countries.

Likewise, broad expressions of solidarity were received in support of Cuba, which in September of this year will once again present to the UN General Assembly the resolution demanding an end to the blockade, in the conviction that it will obtain the traditional overwhelming support of the international community demanding an end to this cruel, unjust and genocidal policy against the Cuban people.
