Beirut, March 31 (Prensa Latina). The General Secretary of the Lebanese Communist Party, Hanna Gharib, said today that it is a duty to defend Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela in their confrontation with the United States.
Gharib issued that criterion during a meeting with the president of the international relations commission of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba (parliament), Yolanda Ferrer.
At the end of a conference of the leftist forces of Mediterranean countries, in this capital, the Lebanese leader indicated that the immediate missions of his party contemplate solidarity with these three Latin American countries and with Sudan and Palestine. "We will concentrate our efforts and denunciations against US and Israeli policy, their main ally in the Middle East," he said.
In Gharib's opinion, because of its failures in Syria and Iraq, Washington is directing a total attack against Venezuela and elevating its hostility towards Cuba and Nicaragua.
Ferrer, head of a delegation composed of Deputy Alberto Núñez and the parliamentary official, Jesús Mora, estimated an excellent opportunity to share experiences with the Lebanese communists, mainly at a time when the US president, Donald Trump, intensifies the blockade against Cuba by threatening the application of Chapter III of the Helms-Burton law.
That title, she explained to Gharib, grants the possibility to US citizens or companies to claim assets or possessions that the Cuban government tried to reward when they nationalized them in the decade of the 60s of the last century, but Washington refused to accept.
That way, she continued, the White House tries to intimidate those interested in investing in the Cuban market for fear that they would be subject to judicial proceedings in the United States.
