The Lebanon-Cuba Friendship Association commemorates the Victory of Playa Giron and demands an end to the blockade imposed by the U.S. against the island
Since the victory of the Cuban Revolution in early 1959, the United States has been confronting Cuba, which is on its borders, with hostility and conspiracy, with the aim of overthrowing its revolutionary authority. This great imperialist power resorts to various means against this beautiful and revolutionary island.
This included the military invasion of Playa Giron in Cuba in mid-April 1961, planned and directed by the CIA. But this failed invasion led to the rooting of the revolution through the adoption of social measures, a socialist approach, the strengthening of the unity of the Cuban people and the launching of the largest solidarity campaign in the world, including Lebanon, especially the peoples of Latin America, who saw in the Cuban revolution the embodiment of their aspirations after experiencing the bitterness of US aggression and the plundering of the wealth and achievements of their people.
The main slogan of these peoples in their solidarity movements was “Cuba yes, Yankees no”. But Washington's authority was not satisfied with the failure of its invasion, but focused its aggression against Cuba on acts of sabotage and attacks in the Cuban capital and other areas, using agents, mercenaries and henchmen for some 15 years, and accompanied it with the imposition of a comprehensive and criminal economic blockade against an entire people.
This severe siege has lasted 65 years. The purpose of all this is to create a state of internal popular discontent, to be exploited by the U.S. media against Cuba, and to incite its people against the revolutionary regime and its authority, with the aim of overthrowing it. This is in addition to the hundreds of failed attempts to assassinate the leader of the revolution, Fidel Castro.
The adherence of the Cuban people to their revolution and its national and social conquests, their support for its leadership and their firm and mutual confidence in it, have been the main factor in the steadfastness of the Cuban people, despite the aforementioned circumstances and their difficulties.
While the United States, the superpower, pursues an aggressive policy against the peoples and interests of its countries, extending its military bases all over the world and sending its warships and modern destructive weapons to support the Zionist enemy in the extermination of the people of Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon and its south, and against Syria and our Arab peoples, Cuba, the small island, despite its difficult circumstances, offers hundreds of university scholarships to our Arab peoples and sends medical teams abroad, where the peoples and their countries need them.
In its clear solidarity approach, it stands in solidarity with our peoples in their liberation struggle and with other peoples.
Therefore, the steadfastness of revolutionary Cuba is not limited only to Cuba, but concerns the peoples of the world and their causes of national and social liberation.
Despite the geographical distance and the diversity of their places of struggle, the unity of their liberation interests makes them a united front of struggle and solidarity against a common imperialist enemy.
All solidarity with Cuba and its friendly people and their great and wonderful steadfastness, and we demand the lifting of the unjust economic blockade of their people.
