Lebanon pays tribute to Fidel on the 9th anniversary of his death
The Cuban Embassy in Lebanon paid tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on the 9th anniversary of his death. Ambassador Jorge P. León Cruz began the ceremony by highlighting the significance of this commemoration, which coincides with the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
Next, the head of Consular Affairs and Administrator of the diplomatic mission, Mayra Nieves Escobar, recalled the following tribute to his memory.
On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the passing of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on November 25, 2025, Cubans and friends of solidarity honor the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, whom they consider their eternal Commander-in-Chief, who lives on today more than ever despite his departure into immortality in 2016.
Fidel was the architect of the Cuban people's achievements in all spheres of society and in the struggle to defend Cuba's sovereignty and independence and for a better world, in peace and solidarity.
Today, his work and legacy show us the way to confront the complex situation in our country, caused mainly by the intensification of the genocidal blockade imposed by the US regime, which also threatens to impose a war in the Caribbean as part of its complicity in the conflicts and wars that dangerously plague humanity.
The Palestinian cause was and is also defended and supported by Fidel, and his statements made in 1979 before the United Nations General Assembly remain fully valid:
“For the Non-Aligned Countries, the question of Palestine is at the heart of the Middle East problem. Both form an integral whole, which cannot be solved separately.”
"The basis for a just peace in the region begins with Israel's total and unconditional withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories, and implies for the Palestinian people the return of all their occupied territories and the restoration of their inalienable national rights, including the right of return to their homeland, to self-determination, and to the establishment of an independent state in Palestine, in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 3236."
We condemn with all our strength the ruthless persecution and genocide that Nazism unleashed against the Jewish people. But I cannot recall anything in our contemporary history that resembles the eviction, persecution, and genocide that imperialism and Zionism are carrying out today against the Palestinian people. Stripped of their land, expelled from their own homeland, scattered throughout the world, persecuted and murdered, the heroic Palestinians are an impressive example of self-sacrifice and patriotism, and are the living symbol of the greatest crime of our time."
Today, 46 years after Fidel's memorable speech at the UN, the reality is the same: Israel is an occupier, aggressor, and perpetrator of genocide, and the US government is increasingly implicated in these crimes, while the Palestinian people die, suffer, and continue to wait for international organizations to take action.
Today, his immortality continues to be evident in the fact that his work and thinking are eternal, imbued with great humanism, solidarity, and internationalism in defense of justice, peace, and just causes.
Fidel continues to be, and will continue to be, an inspiration for Cuba and many parts of the world.
At the conclusion of the event, the Cuban ambassador highlighted the continued relevance of Fidel's thinking and his immortality, noting that his work and ideas are eternal, imbued with great humanism, solidarity, and internationalism in defense of justice, peace, and just causes.
During the day, messages were received from friendship associations, political leaders, Cuban residents, and Lebanese and Palestinian friends, who expressed their sympathy, admiration, and respect for the life and work of Fidel, a triumphant and invincible warrior, undefeated and immortal.
