Lebanon reaffirms its support for Cuba in the fight against the US blockade

During the meeting held by the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Beirut, Jorge León Cruz, with the head of International Relations of the AMAL Movement in Lebanon, Mr. Ali Barada, the traditional Lebanese position in condemning and demanding the lifting of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States for more than six decades was reaffirmed.

Both sides discussed the respective general domestic and foreign political situations of both countries and confirmed the will to continue developing bilateral political ties.

Founded by leaders Musa Al-Sadr and Hussein el Husseini in 1974, the AMAL (Hope) Movement became one of the most important Shiite Muslim militias during the Lebanese civil war. It is currently led by the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, since 1980.  It is the second largest Shiite party in parliament with eleven deputies.
