Monrovia, July 30, 2018-, Liberian Senator Conmany B. Wesseh, figure of great prestige in Liberian national politics, made a special intervention in the framework of the activity organized by the Embassy of Cuba in Liberia to commemorate the Day of the National Rebellion last Friday, July 27. Among the guests at the celebration were young people from various social organizations, journalists and graduates in Cuba.

After the welcoming remarks and the presentation of the audiovisual material "Path to Freedom" prepared by the Cuban Embassy itself Mr. Wesseh spoke about the achievements of the Cuban Revolution. In his speech, he made emphatic reference to the sacrifices and determination of the Cuban people to achieve their full independence and the social conquests that they hold. He also recognized the impact of the Cuban Revolution on the processes of decolonization and independence of several African countries, especially mentioning Angola, South Africa and Namibia.

The parliamentarian underscored the solidarity of the Cuban people by contributing to the training of African professionals in various spheres of knowledge, including the 5 young Liberians who are currently studying medicine for free on the Caribbean island. He also highlighted the high level of Cuban Medicine "which is among the best in the world" and recalled the "indispensable help of Cuba in the fight against Ebola" during the deadliest epidemic of the deadly disease in West Africa. Before concluding his speech, and among anecdotes of his visits to the Greater Antilles and his meeting with Commander Fidel Castro Ruz, he confirmed his sympathy for the Cuban people and reiterated a congratulatory message for the anniversary, which coincidentally coincides with the Independence Day in Liberia.

Senator for the County of River Gee County since 2014, Mr. Conmany B. Wesseh held the Presidency of the Association of University Students of Liberia in his youth, under whose responsibility he visited Cuba to participate in the XI World Youth Festival and the Students.
