The Ambassador of Cuba to Austria, His Excellency Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios and the Mayor of the city of Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig held a fraternal meeting. Both authorities exchanged information and proposals on the state of the bonds between the capital cities and the possibilities of expanding them.
The Cuban Ambassador informed his counterpart about the arrangements being made in Havana to celebrate the 500th anniversary of its creation next year at the time he extended an invitation to the Viennese Mayor to visit the Cuban capital.
Mr. Ludwig thanked the invitation and was interested in the actions which take place in Havana on the occasion of this event. He expressed the possibility of participating not only with his presence, but also with the increase of the cooperation between both cities, particularly with the assistance of means to contribute to the solid waste collection in the Cuban capital.
The meeting between the two authorities was held in the framework of the summer event of the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ, by its German initials) in the Viennese district of Hietzing. In the event, the Cuban Ambassador held exchanges with other prominent figures of this party who were present, such as Mrs. Doris Bures, Second President of the Federal Parliament; Mr. Werner Faymann, former Federal Chancellor; Dr. Josef Ostermayer, former Federal Minister of Culture, and Dr. Gerhard Schmid, Member of the Parliament of the city of Vienna and Head of the SPÖ in Hietzing district.
