Havana, February 14, 2025.- Interparliamentary cooperation between Ethiopia and Cuba continues to strengthen. In this context, the Ambassador of Ethiopia in Havana, H.E Ayelew Lire, held a meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Ethiopia, Hon. Mr. Carlos Rafael Fuentes León.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged ideas on how to expand collaboration between the legislative bodies of the two countries and consolidate historical ties of friendship.
This meeting adds to recent efforts to strengthen bilateral relations. In 2023, Ethiopia created the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, chaired by Dr. Abdulkedir Gelgelgelo, with the aim of promoting cooperation in key sectors between the two countries.
In addition, within the framework of the Second Congress of the Prosperity Party, held from January 31 to February 2, 2025 in Addis Ababa, the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Yudí Mercedes Rodríguez, visited Ethiopia and held meetings with parliamentary leaders, including Vice President Yeshimbet Demissie and the president of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba. During these meetings, the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations and coordination in international forums was reaffirmed.
These initiatives reaffirm the commitment of both countries to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy as an essential pillar in their bilateral relationship.
