Meeting between Cuban Ambassador and President of the Canadian Senate

Ottawa.- Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Cuba's Ambassador to Canada, held a meeting with Raymonde Gagné, President of the Senate of Canada.

In a cordial atmosphere, both figures discussed the actions taken to commemorate the 80th anniversary of bilateral relations between our States, as well as areas of common interest that could be explored to diversify and strengthen these ties. Furthermore, they addressed the effects of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. for more than 6 decades, and the vote taking place today in the UN General Assembly against this genocidal policy.

The Ambassador took the opportunity to provide an update on the situation in the country following the effects of Hurricane Melissa, and at the request of the Canadian counterpart, explained several of the recent transformations in the country regarding legislation, such as the Code of Families and the Labor Code.

Also participating in the meeting on the Cuban side were Dany Tur de la Concepción, Second Chief of Mission, and Mariset Vazquez, First Secretary.
