Ottawa, April 21, 2026.– The Ambassador of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, was received this Tuesday by the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, the country’s main legislative body.
In a cordial atmosphere, both figures exchanged views on the historical relations between the two states and the most significant bilateral developments in recent years. The occasion provided an opportunity to update the Speaker on the current situation in Cuba and the difficult circumstances the country is facing following the tightening of the blockade and the imposition of an energy blockade by the United States. At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the assistance recently provided by Canada and highlighted the expressions of support received from the Canadian people.
The meeting also served to discuss existing potential to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in the economic and commercial spheres, as well as between the parliaments of both countries.
As part of his visit to Parliament, the Cuban Ambassador signed the book of honour at the legislative headquarters.
On the Cuban side, participants included Dany Tur de la Concepción, Deputy Head of Mission, and Mariset Vázquez Lissabet, First Secretary.
