Meeting of cuban residents in Austria

The Meeting of Cuban Residents in Austria took place this Sunday, 19 January, in the emblematic "Danzón" Night Club in the heart of the city of Vienna, capital of Austria.

The activity began with the election of the new Board of Directors of "CUBA VA", the Association of Cuban Residents in Austria, having been elected the dance teacher and Head of "Ritmo Tropical" Studio, Luis Orlando Estévez, as the new President of the organization, who together with Vice President Dunia Concepción, explained the work guidelines and main objectives of the association in the current year. The attendees took the opportunity to recognize the work carried out by the members of the board who are now concluding their work.

Afterwards, Roberto Vizcaíno, diplomatic official in charge of consular affairs, made a presentation on the Cuban Citizenship, responding to several requests of the Cuban residents, which created an enjoyable and instructive dialogue in which some questions were clarified and additional information was provided. Special attention was given to the performance in the social networks by the participants. Officials from the Cuban Embassy explained the strategy which has been implemented to make better use of these tools to disseminate current events in Cuba, the messages of the Revolution, the activity of the diplomatic mission and the interaction with Cuban residents.

The representatives of the Cuban community in Austria adopted a Final Declaration in which they ratified their commitment to preserve and promote the cultural and patriotic values, traditions and principles of independence, sovereignty and national identity of Cuba, and the due respect to our heroes and martyrs. Once again they rejected the policy of blockade against the country and its extraterritorial application.

It was an appropriate occasion to introduce the new Cuban Ambassador, H.E. Mrs. Loipa Sánchez Lorenzo, who offered updated information on the reality of the island, exhorted the members of the association to work in a cohesive manner and with an comprehensive spirit in the defense of the image, traditions and Cuban culture, as well as in the attention to the general interests of the community. She also presented the call for the 4th edition of the "Nation and Emigration" meeting convened by the Cuban Government next April in Havana, Cuba.

The Cuban community in Austria comprises more than 850 residents and it is characterized by its dedication to work and its attachment to family traditions and values.
