Addis Ababa, February 11, 2025.- In a solemn act of tribute, the ambassadors of Cuba to Ethiopia and to the African Union, Meylin Suárez and Lucas D. Hernández, together with the third secretary of the diplomatic mission, Natalys Dinza, signed the book of condolences at the Embassy of Namibia in Addis Ababa after the death of the Founding Father and first President of the Republic of Namibia, Sam Nujoma.
Cuban diplomats expressed to the people and government of Namibia their most heartfelt condolences for the loss of a historic leader, whose legacy of struggle and commitment to the independence and development of his nation will live on in the collective memory of Africa and the world.
In their messages, they highlighted the deep friendship between Sam Nujoma and Cuba, forged in the common struggle against colonialism and apartheid. They underscored the key role Nujoma played in Cuban-Namibian cooperation, strengthened by the island's support for Namibian independence and the training of generations of young Namibians in Cuban universities.
Sam Nujoma, recognized for his leadership at the head of SWAPO and for being Namibia's first president after independence in 1990, left an indelible legacy of determination, justice and national unity. Its contribution to the consolidation of Namibian sovereignty and South-South cooperation remains a benchmark in the history of Africa and international relations.
The Embassy of Cuba reiterated its unwavering commitment to friendship and cooperation between the two countries, reaffirming the historical ties that unite Havana and Windhoek on the path of solidarity and shared development.
