Minister of Defense of Fiji receives the Cuban Ambassador

Suva, February 22. The Minister of Defense, National Security and Police of the Republic of Fiji, Honorable Inia Batikoto Seruiratu, received the Cuban ambassador to this country, José Manuel Galego Montano. In a cordial atmosphere, both interlocutors reviewed the status of the main issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as others of regional and international interest.

The also head of the portfolio of Disaster Management and Rural and Maritime Development of this Pacific State, praised the results achieved in the cooperation between both countries and by Cuba in the area, while highlighting the existing potential for its expansion, in topics of common interest.

On his side, the Antillean diplomatic representative reiterated his gratitude for Fiji's invariable support for the Cuban resolution against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. The Ambassador reaffirmed the support of the Caribbean nation for the just claims of the island states of the region, which face the consequences of climate change. The highest representative of Cuba here also advocated the expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in Fiji and in other countries in the area.

Both representatives wished for the development of the fraternal ties that unite both countries. Cuba and Fiji celebrate this year the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, marked by solidarity and mutually beneficial cooperation.
