Minister of Education of Barbados discusses bilateral cooperation with Cuban Ambassador.

The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Education of Barbados, Hon. Ronald D. Jones, received in his office the Cuban ambassador, Francisco Fernández Peña, to analyze the progress of bilateral cooperation and noted the high significance of the Cuban cooperation, both among their countries and with the rest of the sister nations of CARICOM, why he aimed to maintain and expand on areas where possible.
Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Cecile Humphrey, and other senior officials, the Minister reviewed the new offers of scholarships for Barbadian students can opt for undergraduate studies in Cuba, mainly in the areas of medicine and numerous specialty technologies health, such as nutrition, hygiene and Epidemiology, Nursing, Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, among others.
Regarding scholarships for graduate study we analyzed the possibilities for graduate doctors of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) applied to study a second specialty, choosing between internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics and general surgery, subject to certify they have been practicing medicine in his country. The Cuban Ambassador stressed that this is an exceptional opportunity, as only the Caribbean professionals can opt for these scholarships for free, since the supply to other regions of the world must be paid.
From other interests of the government of Barbados to pursue careers in other specialties, as Defectology (Special Education), visual arts and heritage restoration, the possibility of those races in Cuba by the self-financing modality is recognized, given between requirements requiring pass entrance exams and in the case of Visual Arts (painting, prints and sculpture) the applicant should be degree in these fields.
