Minister of Education of Liberia receives the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba.

Monrovia, October 5, 2018-, In the afternoon the Minister of Education of Liberia, Professor Ansu D. Sonii, received in his office the Charge d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy, ​​Yordenis Despaigne Vera. On the Cuban side, the Second Secretary, Carmen Maury Toledo, also participated.

The head of the Cuban state mission conveyed to the high Liberian official a congratulatory message, on behalf of his Caribbean counterpart, for his election as head of the Education portfolio. After referring the state of the educational scenario in Cuba before and after the revolutionary triumph, he offered up-to-date information on Cuban collaboration in the sphere of literacy, through the creation, application and adaptation of the methods "I Can" and "I can follow".

He also reiterated Cuba's gratitude for the continued support of Liberia for the Major of the Antilles, in various multilateral forums, in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than 50 years. In this regard he offered updated data on the impact of the blockade in the educational sphere, as part of the content of Resolution 72/4 that will be put to the vote on October 31 at the United Nations General Assembly and delivered a copy of said document. He also ratified the willingness of the Cuban government to consolidate the existing relations since 1974, diversifying as much as possible the areas of bilateral cooperation.

For his part Mr. Sonii after thanking the visit made by the representative of Cuban diplomacy, underscored Cuba's ability and governmental willingness to guarantee the training of high-level professionals in key areas such as health and education. He particularly commended the impact of the Cuban literacy method on the world, the Literacy Campaign on Cuba in 1961, and more recently the presence of medical professionals who fought Ebola during the epidemic that the country suffered between 2014 and 2015.
