Monrovia, June 15, 2018- In the morning, the Minister of Energy and Mines of Liberia, Mr. Gesler E. Murray, received in his office the Charge d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. On the Cuban side, the Second Secretary, Carmen Maury Toledo, also participated.
The head of the Cuban state mission conveyed to the high Liberian official a congratulatory message, in the name of his Caribbean counterpart, for his election as head of the Energy and Mines portfolio. Despaigne Vera offered updated information on the Cuban projection of modifying the energy matrix towards the use of clean and renewable energies, particularly solar and wind energy. He also reiterated the gratitude of Cuba for the permanent support to the Major of the Antilles in various multilateral forums, in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than 50 years. He also ratified the willingness of the Cuban government to consolidate the existing relations since 1974, diversifying as much as possible the areas of bilateral cooperation.
For his part Mr. Murray, after thanking the visit made by the representative of Cuban diplomacy, underscored Cuba's ability to guarantee the training of high-level professionals in key areas such as health and education. He particularly appreciated the presence of medical professionals who fought Ebola during the epidemic that the country suffered between years 2014-2015 and wished to identify aspects in the energy area where Liberia and Cuba can work together.
