Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia receives Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

In the afternoon of Friday, December 9, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Ms. Marjon Kamara, received the Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Gerardo Peñalver Portal. For the Liberian side, the meeting also included Mr. Dephue Zuo, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration; Mr. Sie-Teba Neufville, Director for American Affairs and Mr. Dave Kontue, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration. On the Cuban side were present Yordenis Despaigne Vera, Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba in Liberia and Carmen Maury Toledo, Second Secretary.

During the exchange, both sides highlighted the boost to bilateral relations between Cuba and Liberia, which involves the reopening of the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Liberian territory and the upcoming accreditation of a Liberian ambassador to the Cuban government. The Cuban official sent a message of gratitude on behalf of the Cuban government and people to the Liberian chancellor for the many expressions of solidarity with Cuba during the death of the Commander and in the struggle of the Greater Antilles for the definitive lifting of the blockade. Meanwhile, Minister Kamara reiterated gratitude to Cuba for its effective and fast response to the Ebola epidemic that hit that African nation in 2014 and 2015.

During the meeting, the officials discussed about several issues of bilateral interest as well as relevant aspects of the regional political agenda.
