The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in India, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), today inaugurated an exhibition of Cuban paintings at the ICCR Art Gallery, in celebration of the National Day of Cuban Culture. The event was attended by the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, the Director General of this cultural institution, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in India, artists, teachers and students.
During the evening, the Minister of State emphasized her solidarity and support to Cuba, wished the Cuban people the best wishes on the occasion of the Culture Day and highlighted the historic regarding of friendship and cooperation that unite the peoples of Cuba and India. He highlighted this initiative as an opportunity to continue strengthening cultural ties between the two nations. The Cuban Ambassador explained the origin of this memorable date.
As part of the program, Professor Shalu Chopra presented her book "Viva Latino 3", her third book on Spanish methodology, which blends the teaching of Spanish with the culture of Latin America and the Caribbean. Her students paid tribute to Cuban and Indian culture by singing the notes of the national anthems of both countries and singing two of their most popular songs, "Guantanamera" and "Saare Jahan se Achha".
The exhibition of Cuban paintings, which will be open to the public until November 4, includes works of art by more than 8 Cuban painters, among them Mariano Rodríguez, René Portocarrero, Víctor Manuel and Amelia Peláez.
