Namibian President condemns the blockade against Cuba.

Namibia, April 15th, 2021- The President of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Hage Geingob, called on the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States Government against Cuba, in the annual State of the Nation Address, delivered at the headquarters of the Namibian Parliament, in Windhoek, capital of the country.

President Geingob expressed:

“The removal of the financial, economic and commercial blockade against Cuba is long overdue. Therefore, we call on the current US Administration to find an amicable solution to this problem in the spirit of good neighbourliness."

In his speech, the Namibian President also addressed issues of vital interest to his country, such as the fight against corruption, economic development and the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19. Similarly, he expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples and called on the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe.

President Geingob has expressed on different occasions his solidarity with Cuba and his condemnation of the US blockade. In the same way, he has called for a resumption of the process initiated by former presidents Raúl Castro and Barack Obama.

The president has alluded to these issues in his interventions in the High Level Segment of the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly where he has participated, as well as in other spaces, such as SWAPO Congresses, different speeches on the state of the nation and in several interviews.
