Namibian President condemns the blockade in meeting with the Cuban Ambassador.

Namibia, August 31st, 2021- H. E. Dr. Hage Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, within the framework of the courtesy call payed to the African president by Sidenio Acosta, Ambassador of Cuba in Namibia.

The meeting, which lasted about an hour, was propitious for Ambassador Acosta to update the Namibian leader on the excellent state of the historic bilateral relations. Likewise, he conveyed the willingness of the Cuban Government to continue cooperating with its counterpart in the established spheres, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.

The Cuban diplomatic also thanked President Geingob for Namibia's constant and historic support for Cuba, at the United Nations and the African Union, in the island's struggle to lift the US blockade. In addition, he updated his counterpart on the reinforcement of that genocidal policy and on the media campaign to discredit Cuba, orchestrated and financed from the United States.

Similarly, Ambassador Acosta updated the Namibian Head of State about the Cuban government's efforts to control the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, he commented on the details of the development of the three Cuban vaccines and two other vaccine candidates.

The also President of SWAPO, the government party in Namibia, recalled his visits to Cuba and the meetings held with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, Army General Raúl Castro and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, to whom he sent a personal greeting. Regarding Fidel, President Geingob highlighted his political vision and the outstanding role he played, together with the Cuban people, in the independence of Namibia.

In the same way, he recalled his participation in the funeral services held in the “Plaza de la Revolución”, on the occasion of the death of the Commander-in-Chief. From his speech on that occasion, the President recalled having highlighted the solidarity and disinterest of the Cuban combatants, who, led by Fidel, returned to their homeland only with the remains of their fallen comrades.

On the Namibian side, H.E. Ms. Christine //Hoebes, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mr. Alfredo Hengari, Press Secretary of the Presidency, and Ambassador Sabine Bölke - Müller, Director General for Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, also attended. Aldo Fuentes, second secretary of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission, accompanied Ambassador Acosta.
