Namibian president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah recognized Cuba’s role in Namibia’s fight for independence during the National Heroes' Day event held at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex in the Zambezi region.
Ambassador Sergio Vigoa de la Uz attended the annual celebration, which honors the heroes and heroines who fell during Namibia’s fight for independence and celebrates freedom and life.
“As Namibians, we extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the nations and peoples of the world who stood in solidarity with us during our national liberation struggle. the resilient people of Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Cuba, and many others in Africa and beyond that provided our national liberation waged under the banner of SWAPO, their unwavering support; militarily, diplomatically and politically. Indeed, their contributions must remain a cherished chapter in our nation’s history”, president Netumbo said during her address.
Namibia, a land of the brave, paid tribute to those who fought for its freedom and sovereignty and, through the voice of its president, reaffirmed the brotherhood among our peoples, who follow the example of struggle and determination to preserve peace.
“On this 59th anniversary of the heroes’ day let us renew our commitment to the vision of our heroes and heroines. Let us build a Namibia that reflects their dreams of inclusivity, equity, and prosperity for all as their blood waters our freedom”, the president concluded.
The massive event was attended by national authorities, representatives of the SWAPO party, religious figures, traditional leaders, and the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.
