Namibia, March 5th, 2021- The Ambassador of Cuba to Namibia, Sidenio Acosta, and the Attorney General of this African country, H.E. Mr. Festus Mbandeka, held a fruitful meeting, where the state of bilateral relations was reviewed and ways to strengthen them were identified.
Ambassador Acosta updated the Namibian lawyer on the situation of Covid-19 in Cuba and the impact of the disease on the Cuban economy, also affected by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States. The Cuban diplomat also explained the process of developing 5 Cuban vaccine candidates against the pandemic. Similarly, he highlighted the historical ties that link Cuba and Namibia.
For his part, the Attorney General emphasized the achievements made by Cuba in medicine, biotechnology and education, despite the US blockade. He underlined the bonds of brotherhood that unite the peoples of both countries. He also thanked Cuba for cooperation with his country in dissimilar areas. The Namibian leader expressed his willingness to contribute to strengthening this collaboration.
The Office of the Attorney General is responsible for the legal representation of the local government, advising the President and Cabinet on legal matters, and ensuring compliance with the Constitution. In Namibia there is also the Office of the Prosecutor General, which is financially and organizationally subordinate to the Office of the Attorney General, but is in charge of criminal proceedings.
The meeting took place in a fraternal atmosphere. Executives from the Attorney General's Office and the Foreign Ministry also participated, as well as other officials from the Cuban Embassy in Namibia.
