The prestigious University of Vienna welcomed the master conference imparted by the renowned Cuban researcher, professor, and historian Dr. Sergio Guerra Vilaboy, recipient of the 2017 National Award on Social Sciences. A numerous audience composed of academicians, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Austria, students and friends of Cuba attended the lecture.
The Conference took place in the margins of the “Latin America, the Caribbean, and year 1968” event organized by the Association of Continental American and Caribbean Studies and Culture (KONAK) with the support of the History Institute, the English and American Studies Department of the Vienna University and the Latin American and Caribbean Association of Historians (ADHILAC), currently presided by Dr. Guerra Vilaboy.
The prestigious Cuban scholar highlighted the historic moment in which the young Cuban Revolution faced the continuous aggressions of the imperialism and how it constituted a significant reference for the national liberation movements in Latin America.
The Cuban Ambassador to Austria, His Excellency, Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios in his words to the audience of the event thanked the organizers for the opportunity of introducing the prominent Cuban intellectual and promoting a high level academic debate about the Latin American and the Caribbean region.
Furthermore, prestigious academicians as Christian Cwik, President of KONAK, Leo Gabriel, Alexandra Ganser, Uwe Christian Plachetka, and the Professor of the Vienna University, Berthold Unfried, who acted as the moderator, took part in the discussion.
