Identifying new opportunities for cooperation between Cuba and Namibia was the purpose of the visit to this African nation of a delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Construction, headed by Vice Minister Amaury Medina Morante.
Accompanied by the Cuban ambassador, Sergio Vigoa de la Uz, the members of the delegation held fruitful exchanges with the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Mr. Erastus Amutenya Uutoni, with the road authority and with the person in charge of the railway structure of TRANSNAMIB; in addition to touring low-cost housing development projects where Cuban aid workers work.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Transport, Mr. John Mutorwa, met with the MICONS delegation together with the Cuban ambassador, a meeting in which the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Havana between both ministries was reviewed, in which proposes to expand and diversify current cooperation.
Mutorwa appreciated the possibility of selecting 50 young Namibians to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies in technical careers in Cuba during the years 2024 and 2025, which will improve the training of its specialists to face tasks of developing the country's infrastructure.
The Cuban Construction delegation and Ambassador Vigoa de la Uz were also received by the Prime Minister, Mrs. Saara Kuugongelwa, who was able to learn about the main issues addressed in the meetings held with authorities of this sister country and the collaboration agreements in the construction and research sector that have expanded and diversified in recent years.
The head of government thanked Cuba for continuing to contribute to the development of Namibia, after having fought alongside SWAPO for the independence of “the land of the brave.”
