Wellington, April 12, 2016.- At a meeting held in this capital at the Beehive with the Ambassador of Cuba, Mario Alzugaray, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Hon. Murray McCully, advocated for increased links and exchanges between the two countries.
The leader of New Zealand diplomacy also praised Cuba´s cooperation efforts in the Pacific Islands, stressing his Government will contribute to this endeavour through English training programs for the Cuban doctors engaged in the small island developing States of the region, in accordance with an agreement signed for this purpose in February 2015. The occasion was also conducive to recall his encounter with the Pacific Islands medical students during his first visit to Cuba in October 2012.
The Cuban diplomat, on his side, illustrated Minister McCully on the current situation in Cuba, as well as expressed the interest of his country in promoting bilateral ties, with emphasis on the promotion of economic cooperation and mutually beneficial businesses opportunities.
