Vienna, October 11. The Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) held its General Assembly today, ratifying Hermann Pernerstorfer as president of the organization.
During the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Austrian Trade Unions, the Cuban Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, recognized the solidarity work of the ÖKG, highlighting the countless expressions of support for Cuba from different parts of the world, which he described as “the greatest legacy of Fidel and the Revolution: international solidarity.”
As part of the event, a letter sent by the President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González Llort, was read, in which he reaffirmed Cuba's gratitude to the ÖKG for its constant support and highlighted the example of unity and resistance of the Cuban people in the face of the economic blockade.
During the assembly, it was reported that the Austrian organization had already donated 30,000 euros to the MediCuba Europa campaign, an initiative that seeks to support Cuban patients and health institutions affected by the limitations of the U.S. blockade. With this contribution, the ÖKG reaffirms its status as a regular donor, once again demonstrating its commitment to the health and well-being of the Cuban people.
The event also served to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries and reiterate the Austrian community's support for Cuba in the face of the adversities imposed by the blockade.
At the end of the meeting, a resolution entitled “For an end to the US blockade that violates international law, for sovereignty and international solidarity with Cuba” was adopted, demanding the immediate cessation of this unjust policy.
