Ljubljana, 14 November 2019. In the presence of the renowned filmmaker and scriptwriter, Arturo Sotto, the Retrospective of Cuban Cinema was inaugurated in homage to the 60th anniversary of the ICAIC (by its Spanish initials), in the framework of the Ljubljana International Film Festival.
The exhibition has a broad program, which will be screened until 24 November at the headquarters of the Slovenian Cinematheque. It includes the screeining of classics of Cuban cinematography, including: “Memorias del Subdesarrollo” ("Memories of Underdevelopment"), “La muerte de un burócrata” ("The Death of a Bureaucrat"), “La última Cena” ("The Last Dinner"), “Soy Cuba” ("I am Cuba"), "Lucía", “Fresa y Chocolate” ("Strawberry and Chocolate"), and “Hasta Cierto Punto” ("To Some Extent") and a selection of short films by Santiago Álvarez. Arturo Sotto will also deliver some lectures regarding Cuban cinema.
At the opening of the Retrospective, Simon Popek, Director of the Ljubljana International Film Festival, Igor Prassel, Director of the Slovenian Cinematheque, authorities of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cuban Embassy in Austria with concurrent accreditation in Slovenia, were present.
The attendees, which comprised Slovenian cultural authorities, friends of the solidarity movement with Cuba and Cuban residents, highly welcomed the film entitled “Fresa y Chocolate” ("Strawberry and Chocolate") and subsequently shared an exchange of views with Mr. Sotto and Cuban authorities attending the event.
