Our solidarity is based on the strength of our bonds

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2026.- On behalf of the African Group to the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Ambassador Issa Konfourou, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Mali to the United Nations, reaffirmed Africa’s firm solidarity with Cuba.

The Ambassador called for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Cuba and the repeal of the extraterritorial provisions of the Helms-Burton Act. He also expressed the African Group’s support for the reopening of agenda item 38 of the General Assembly, entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”
