On the ninth anniversary of the death of Palestine's friend, the international leader Fidel Castro, Cubans and friends of solidarity remember the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, not only as the leader of his people and of Cuba in their confrontation with US imperialism, nor as a symbol who contributed effectively to the historic transformations of Latin America towards independence and liberation, but also as a global leader who supported the causes of liberation and opposed oppression everywhere.
Castro founded a strong Cuba, which has stood firm in the face of challenges and threats, consolidating its position as a symbol of independence. With the strength of his leadership and Cuba's strategic location, Latin America went from being a region under Washington's influence to an independent space that opposes imperialism.
Today, Cuba learns from his legacy and his work to face the complex challenges posed by current circumstances, including the intensification of the US embargo, which not only strangles the Cuban economy but also threatens to unleash conflicts that could lead to war in the Caribbean region, amid the interventions and complicity of the US regime in conflicts that threaten all of humanity.
Fidel Castro's project was not limited to a local revolution, nor to a narrow regional dimension; rather, it had a global and comprehensive dimension in supporting causes of liberation, including the Palestinian cause.
He strongly defended the Palestinian people's right to liberation and independence, and placed Palestine at the center of his international speeches, repeatedly emphasizing the need for the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation of its territories and the cessation of its continued aggression.
Fidel Castro was a leader with strategic vision and political acumen that even his enemies recognized. Despite sanctions and conspiracies, which included assassination attempts and efforts to undermine his achievements, he remained steadfast in his principles and did not succumb to any threats or temptations.
The Palestinian people remember him and are grateful for his sincere support for their cause and his call for a more peaceful and united world. They reaffirm their loyalty to the Cuban people, wishing them continued progress and prosperity. Fidel Castro will remain a symbol for the legacy he left in favor of freedom.
With my warmest regards,
Abu Bashar
Secretary of Foreign Affairs
