On the afternoon of October 23, Member of Parliament Gabriel Ste. Marie presented to the House of Commons the petition e-5014 calling on his country’s government to request the United States to lift the blockade against Cuba, as well as the removal of the island from the list of States sponsoring terrorism.
The petition also denounces the blockade as an obstacle for the Cuban people to enjoy fully their human rights. It calls for the sovereignty of Quebec and Canada to be preserved, ensuring that Quebec and Canadian corporations and other entities, particularly governmental ones, do not participate in U.S. economic sanctions against Cuba. Finally, it asks that Quebec and Canada's relations with Cuba continue to be based on equality and respect.
This initiative joins many others around the world that have denounced the genocidal policy of the United States against Cuba.
On 30 October, Cuba will present the report "Need to end the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba" to the General Assembly of the United Nations. It is expected that once again, a wide support from the international community to the greater of the Antilles.
