Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Le Hoai Trung, paid an official visit to Cuba from June 20 to 22 as the special envoy of Party General Secretary and President To Lam. The purpose of the visit was to inform the Communist Party of Cuba of the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and to strengthen cooperation between the two Parties and countries.
During his stay, Le Hoai Trung met with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and held talks with Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. He also addressed a conference organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba on June 22, where he presented a comprehensive briefing on the resolutions and strategic directions adopted at Vietnam’s 14th National Congress.
Le Hoai Trung conveyed a message from Party General Secretary and President To Lam to General Raúl Castro Ruz and First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, along with greetings from Vietnam’s senior leaders. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on reinforcing solidarity and supporting the revolutionary cause of the Cuban people, while working to augment fraternal cooperation for the development of both nations and for global peace and stability.
In his remarks, Le Hoai Trung highlighted Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, lessons from 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), and the strategic breakthroughs outlined at the 14th National Congress. He also praised Cuba’s recent comprehensive transformation measures, particularly in the economic sphere, and expressed confidence in Cuba’s ability to overcome current challenges under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Cuban leaders expressed appreciation for To Lam’s decision to send a special envoy, noting that it reflected the special trust and fraternal ties between the two Parties, countries, and peoples. They pledged to continue facilitating cooperation across sectors to achieve new results serving the interests of both nations. President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz also sent greetings to Party General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, and other senior Vietnamese leaders.
Both sides agreed to intensify high-level exchanges, promote people-to-people and youth cooperation, and coordinate commemorative activities marking the 100th birth anniversary of Fidel Castro in 2026. They also reaffirmed their commitment to mutual support at multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
During the visit, Le Hoai Trung laid wreaths at memorials dedicated to Cuban national hero José Martí and President Ho Chi Minh in Havana. He met with representatives of the Vietnamese community and Embassy staff in Cuba, and visited agricultural and essential goods production projects run by Vietnamese enterprises.
The visit concluded successfully, leaving a strong impression of the solidarity and loyalty between the two Parties and countries, and underscoring their determination to further enhance the special cooperative relations in the coming period.
