Vienna, May 20, 2026. – The Cuban Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, along with a delegation from the Embassy, held an intensive day of meetings with representatives of the main political forces in St. Pölten, as part of a visit sponsored by the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ).
The day began with a meeting with representatives of the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) at the “Café im Palais Wellenstein,” where the Cuban delegation spoke with Max Zirngast, state spokesperson for the KPÖ Lower Austria and city councilor in St. Pölten; Michael Heindl, budget spokesperson; and Matthias Kerschbaumer, member of the state executive board. Subsequently, a meeting was held with Deputy Mayor Michael Kögl and city council members Gabriele Vavra and Max Müller-Wallner, as well as with Jessica Müller-Wallner, head of education for the SPÖ St. Pölten. Finally, a meeting was held at the Municipal Library with Jakob Redl, city council member for the Green Party.
During the discussions, the Cuban delegation briefed the political representatives on the current situation on the island, particularly the consequences of the energy blockade, the intensification of the blockade, and the impact of the executive orders issued by the U.S. president in January and May. They also explained the country’s efforts to introduce renewable energy sources.
The discussions highlighted mutual interest in issues related to environmental protection, international solidarity, and cooperation, and are part of the diplomatic mission’s efforts to bring the reality of Cuba closer to its Austrian counterparts outside Vienna.
The Cuban delegation was composed of the Ambassador and the First Secretaries of the Embassy, Belkis Romeu Alvarez and Lisset González López.
