Prensa Latina and Azertac sign cooperation agreement

The Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina and the Azeri news agency Azertac signed a cooperation and exchange agreement at a ceremony in the headquarters of the local media organization in this capital on Saturday.

Chief Editor Orlando Oramas penned the accord on behalf of Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique Gonzalez, while Azertac Board President Aslan Aslanov represented the Azeri news agency.

Before the ceremony, a delegation from Azertac, headed by Aslanov, welcomed Oramas, who was briefed about the work of the centenarian Azeri news agency, which has 21 correspondents and publishes 600 dispatches a day in eight languages.

Until June this year, Azertac held the presidency of the World Congress of News Agency and it is currently holding the leadership of the Organization of News Agencies of Asia and the Pacific until November.

During his visit to Azertac's headquarters, Oramas met with staff members, who learned about the work and experience of Prensa Latina, which has more than 30 offices abroad.

The Prensa Latina representative noted the importance of holding the 18th Summit of the 120-member Non-Aligned Movement in Baku, as it is a major force in international relations.

Oramas also referred to the possibility that Prensa Latina becomes a door to Azertac's access to Latin America, and the Azeri news agency helps to spread Latin America's voice in this region.
