Suva, November 3. The gratitude to Cuba for its friendship and valuable contribution to the training of health professionals was reiterated by the President of the Republic of Fiji, Major General (retired) Jioji Konusi Konrote, upon receiving at the State House Ambassador Carlos Manuel Rojas Lago, who concludes his term of duty in this country. In a cordial atmosphere, both exchanged on the development of the relations between both nations.

President Konrote expressed his confidence in expanding the areas of bilateral cooperation, “taking into account,” he said, “the common challenges we face”. In evoking his participation at the head of Fijian delegations at high-level events at multilateral venues, the Head of State recognized Cuba's invariable support for the fair demands of the Small Island Developing States, especially in terms of the protection of the oceans and climate change.

On his side, the Caribbean diplomat thanked Fiji's solidarity with the Cuban people in their fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, while highlighting his country's commitment to continue strengthening its multifaceted ties with the Pacific Islands.

Ambassador Rojas Lago was also received by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, National Security and Police, Honorable Inia Seruiratu, as part of the meetings with the highest authorities of the State and the Government at the end of his term of duty in Fiji.
