The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will participate in the Online Summit entitled "We stand together against COVID-19", convened by Azerbaijan in its capacity as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, in the format of a Contact Group, which comprises representatives from various regions making up the Movement.
The event, which will be held via videoconference on Monday, 4 May at 7 a.m. (Cuban local time), will be chaired by Azerbaijan´s President, Ilham Aliyev.
On the other hand, Díaz-Canel will be accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Health of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and José Ángel Portal Miranda, respectively.
The relevance of the Movement, amid the current situation, is strengthened by the adoption of the Communiqués in support of the World Health Organization (WHO) and on the COVID-19 pandemic, which promote global unity, solidarity and international cooperation, and call for setting aside political differences and removing unilateral coercive measures, which violate International Law and the Charter of the United Nations and limit the capacity of States to effectively tackle the pandemic.
