The head of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Liberia, Yordenis Despaigne Vera, was received in his office by the president pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate, Mr. Armah Zollu Jallah, senator for the county of Gbarpolu. The chief of the High Chamber was accompanied by Senator Peter Coleman, chairman of the Senate Health Committee and representative of Grand Kru County. For the Cuban side was also present the Second Secretary, Carmen Maury.
During the meeting, the Cuban official sent a friendly greeting to his counterpart on behalf of the Cuban government and parliaments. He also thanked Liberia's traditional support for Cuba's struggle to lift the unjust economic, financial and commercial blockade that has been imposed for more than 57 years. He shared information on the structure, functioning and composition of the National Assembly of People's Power of Greater Antilles and reiterated the will of the Cuban government and people to strengthen ties with that West African nation and to diversify areas of collaboration, taking advantage of the reopening of the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Monrovia and the accreditation of a Liberian ambassador to the Cuban authorities, both in December 2016.
Mr. Zollu Jallah reiterated his gratitude to Cuba for the presence of doctors from the caribbean nation during the fight against the Ebola outbreak and agreed with the Cuban official that "it would be very profitable to explore areas of common interest and booster the ties between the two parliaments, for the mutual benefit of our countries.”
