In a recent televised session of the Senate of Grenada, the President of this body, Honorable Dessima Williams, paid tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on the centenary of his birth. With a solemn gesture, the legislator evoked the historical significance of the Cuban leader and his impact on the Caribbean region.
Affirming that the Caribbean has produced great leaders, Williams recalled that Fidel was a figure who articulated and fought for the emancipation and rights of the peoples of the so‑called Third World.
In this regard, the Grenadian leader remembered Fidel as a voice that continues to be powerful in the defense of global well‑being. As part of her intervention before the chamber she presides over, she referred to the repeated calls of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution for demilitarization and the transfer of military resources toward social and economic welfare.
For the prominent senator, beyond any assessment of his ideology, the leadership of the Commander in Chief “has never been in doubt.”
At the conclusion of her remarks on Fidel, the head of the Senate sent greetings to his family, his people, and his revolution.
Dessima Williams is a Grenadian leader who has accumulated several decades of political work in her nation. She was linked to the Grenadian Revolution until it succumbed to the U.S. intervention of 1983. In recent months, she has organized or taken part in various activities in her country in solidarity with the largest of the Antilles.
