Port of Spain, November 8.- The President of the Senate of Trinidad and Tobago, Honorable Christine Kangaloo, received a delegation from the National Assembly of Cuba, chaired by the Member of Parliament, at the headquarters of said institution today and the President of the Friendship with the Caribbean group of the Cuban legislature, Dr. José Rubiera Torres. The Cuban deputy was accompanied by Cuban Ambassador Guillermo Vázquez Moreno and officials from the Department of International Relations of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (NAPPC) and the Cuban diplomatic mission.
The occasion was propitious for both sides to exchange on current events in their respective countries especially regarding the legislative activity. Within the framework of this dialogue, Dr. Rubiera explained the main characteristics of the process of constitutional reform that takes place in Cuban society that should culminate in February with the holding of a popular referendum. The President of the Senate recognized the importance of this process and its popular and democratic character and wished the Cuban people success in this endeavor.
As a continuation of the excellent relationship between the parliaments of both countries, Dr. Rubiera delivered a letter of invitation from the President of the NAPPC, Esteban Lazo, for a high-level Trinidadian delegation to visit Cuba, to which time he transferred another invitation for Trinidadian parliamentarians to participate in an event among Caribbean parliamentarians that will be dedicated to climate change, all as part of the program of the IV International Conference "For the Balance of the World" in January 2019. Mrs. Kangaloo expressed gratitude for both invitations, as well as highlighted the interest of what these actions contribute to consolidate bilateral parliamentary relations.
The meeting was held in a cordial and relaxed atmosphere and represented the second legislative visit of Cuba to this Caribbean country in the current year, reflecting the dynamics in the relations between both parliaments.
