The Right Honorable Prime Minister, Freundel J. Stuart, and the Honorable Senator Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, accompanied by other senior government officials and the Barbadian Foreign Ministry made a breakfast meeting with the diplomatic corps in the country in Accra Beach Hotel, located precisely in the constituency that the Prime Minister represents in Parliament. During the activity was shared with diplomatic representatives of different countries planned events to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Independence in the coming months.
The presentation was well received and the exchange made several diplomats expressed their solidarity and joy by witnessing this special opportunity. At the time, the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jose Gomez Febres, informed the prime minister that his country decided to make a special contribution and a classroom at the Venezuelan Institute for Cultural Cooperation will be named National Hero of Barbados General Bussa. That gesture was well appreciated by the ruler of the island.
Commenting on the role of Barbados in the international community over the last fifty years, Prime Minister Stuart said that the island "could not have navigated the turbulent waters of Independence without the support, cooperation and inspiration of its international partners. "
