KINGSTON, Jamaica, September 27th, 2017. Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, welcomed this morning, the Cuban Ambassador, Bernardo Guanche Hernandez, who´s ending his tour of duty in this Caribbean nation.
During the friendly meeting, carried out in the Office of the Prime Minister, both parts expressed the satisfaction for the excellent level of the bilateral relations and the cooperation in different areas.
The Cuban Ambassador praised the support offered by the Prime Minister, the Parliament and people of Jamaica to his work in this country and extended the appreciation of his Government and people for the permanent solidarity and the companionship of Jamaica during the diverse fights of the Cuban people, in particular, the campaign against the Blockade.
On this particular, Holness reiterated the willingness of his country to continue supporting Cuba until the end of this policy that inflicts damages to its people.
“Jamaica will maintain its position and will continue demanding the end of blockade”, expressed the Prime Minister.
The Jamaican premier availed the occasion to reiterate the message of condolences to the Cuban peoples for the serious affectations provoked by Hurricane Irma, something that was thanked by the Cuban diplomat as well as a similar letter sent to Army General Raul Castro Ruz.
Both parts coincided on the necessity to continue increasing the cooperation and the bilateral exchanges for the benefit of the two nations. The Head of the Cuban State Mission further explained the bilateral collaboration projects in areas like health, education, tourism and commerce.
“Cuba and Jamaica have the potential to take the economic-commercial relations to the same level as the diplomatic relations”, stated Guanche Hernandez.
Before concluding the emotional meeting, Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the Cuban Ambassador ratified the compromise to continue strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations that are not only close because of the geography but also due to their friendship and solidarity.
Ambassador Elinor Felix, Chief of Protocol of the Office of the Prime Minister, participated at the meeting, as well as representatives from Jamaica´s main media and Ayleni Mas Rodriguez, head of the Press Office at the Cuban Embassy.
