Receives Prime Minister of Bhutan to Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Cuba.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, received the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in India, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh, Abel Aballe Despaigne. Both held a fruitful exchange on ways to expand bilateral collaboration, with emphasis on the sectors of health, sports, education and biotechnology.

As part of his working visit to Timbu, the Cuban diplomat also held meetings with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan, Tshogpon Lungten Dorji; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, D.N. Dhungyel; and the Minister of Education, Yeezang De Thapa.

In all the exchanges, the historic relations of friendship and bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Cuba and Bhutan were highlighted, based on the friendly relations between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro and King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

For his part, the Chargé d'Affaires updated on the current situation in Cuba, in particular the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. government against the Cuban people, strengthened to unprecedented historical levels, starting with the administration of Donald Trump. The Bhutanese dignitaries once again ratified their support for Cuba against this scourge and their rejection of unilateral measures against international norms and law.

They also discussed the opportunities for the presence of Cuban products and services in the announced Special Administrative Region, called “Gelephu City of Conscience”, in the Sarpang district of Bhutan.
