Port of Spain, January 23, 2026. At the headquarters of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Trinidad and Tobago, an emotional activity of solidarity with the Venezuelan people was held this Thursday, within the framework of important historical anniversaries that unite Venezuela and Cuba.
During the event, the Ambassador of Venezuela, Álvaro Sánchez Cordero, highlighted the commemoration of the 68th anniversary of the overthrow of the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez, which occurred on January 23, 1958, a date that symbolizes the Venezuelan people’s struggle for democracy and sovereignty.
Likewise, he recalled the 67th anniversary of the arrival of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in Caracas on January 23, 1959, following the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, underscoring the profound historical and political significance of that event for the brotherhood between both peoples.
The Ambassador also evoked José Martí’s first arrival in Caracas on January 21, 1881, highlighting his admiration for Simón Bolívar and his commitment to freedom and the unity of Our America.
During the ceremony, heartfelt tribute was also paid to the Cuban and Venezuelan combatants who fell on January 3, honoring their memory and their dedication in defense of Venezuela’s sovereignty and dignity.
The activity reaffirmed the historic bonds of solidarity, respect, and brotherhood between Venezuela and Cuba, as well as the ongoing commitment to the ideals of independence, social justice, and Latin American unity.
Gilda López Mestre, Minister Counselor, and Leydis Bernal Suárez, Counselor in charge of Consular Affairs, were present at the event.
