Report on the energy blockade against Cuba reaches thousands of people in Austria

Vienna, May 1.—Cuba’s Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, took part in the International Workers’ Day rally organized by the Austrian Labor Party (PdA) in Vienna’s Sigmund Freud Park, before thousands of people in solidarity with the Cuban cause.

In his remarks, the diplomat denounced the U.S. president’s executive order of January 29, which added an energy blockade to the already cruel embargo that for more than 65 years has sought to subdue the Cuban people. “Today, the intensification of the blockade strikes every sphere of Cuban life: it limits the acquisition of fuel, affects our energy matrix, hinders food production, and threatens the functioning of our hospitals and schools. But the Cuban people do not give up. The homeland defends itself,” he affirmed under the slogan that unites the island this May 1st.

The Ambassador acknowledged the constant and active support of the Austrian Labor Party and its youth for the Cuban cause and concluded that “Defending Cuba today means defending the right of a small people to exist with dignity in the face of U.S. imperialism.”

The participation of the Cuban ambassador, alongside First Secretary Lisset González, in this event marked the culmination of a day of solidarity that spread to major cities across Austria. This was complemented by other solidarity initiatives organized by Slovenian youth, which helped ensure that the truth about Cuba reached an ever-growing number of people across Europe.
