Namibia, May 14th, 2020- The Founding President and Father of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Mr. Sam Nujoma, offered an interview to the Cuban Television Information System, conducted by journalist Milton Díaz Canter, who has interviewed the Namibian leader on 4 occasions.

The former president emphasized on the excellent historical relations between Cuba and Namibia, begun in the 60s of the 20th century and consolidated during the years of the struggle for the independence of Namibia against the South African apartheid regime.

In this context, he recalled the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale and its importance in the reconfiguration of the political map of Southern Africa. Nujoma highlighted cooperation on the battlefield between Angolan, Namibian, and Cuban troops.

The historical leader of SWAPO recalled that this decisive combat had been personally led, from Havana, by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.

With respect to the Cuban leader, Nujoma standed out his indisputable role in the fight against colonialism and imperialism worldwide and, in particular, on the African continent. He also recalled the ties of friendship that linked him to Fidel.

Through the cameras of Cuban Television, Nujoma sent an affectionate message of thanks and support to the people of Cuba. Likewise, he condemned the imperialist aggressions of the United States against Cuba and urged respect for national sovereignty and the lifting of the blockade.

The interview was conducted within the framework of the Namibian leader's 91st birthday and will be broadcast soon on Cuban Television.

In addition to the Cuban journalist and the team that accompanied him, the Namibian Ambassador to Cuba Samuel Goagoseb and a representation of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in this African country were present at the dialogue.
