THE SOCIALIST WORKERS' PARTY OF CROATIA (SRP) EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH THE REPUBLIC OF CUBA
The Socialist Workers' Party of Croatia (SRP) expresses its strongest solidarity with the people of the Republic of Cuba and strongly condemns the criminal escalation of aggression by the United States.
Donald Trump declared Cuba an “extreme threat” and introduced measures designed to completely cut off the country’s fuel supply. This act produced its intended effects: a total blackout, hospitals operating without electricity, paralyzed water systems, and the Cuban people exposed to starvation and darkness.
Following the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January, Washington immediately cut off Cuba’s main oil supply line and halted all shipments from Mexico and other countries through blackmail and military threats.
The result is that significant quantities of oil have not reached Cuba for months. This is a deliberately provoked humanitarian catastrophe aimed at achieving through economic suffocation what six decades of invasions, assassinations, sabotage, and biological warfare failed to achieve: the destruction of the Cuban Revolution and the recolonization of the island for the benefit of U.S. monopolies.
This is an attack on the sovereignty of all nations that dare to resist the dictates of imperialism. The U.S. seeks to overthrow Cuban socialism in order to plunder the country’s wealth for the benefit of its monopolies. They want to turn Cuba into a colonial casino, a tourist destination, and a source of cheap labor.
By punishing Cuba for its socialist achievements (free healthcare for all, universal education, internationalist missions), the U.S. sends a clear message to the workers of the world: resistance to capital will be stifled by collective punishment and starvation.
U.S. imperialism openly declares its “right” to dominate the world through blackmail, coercion, and economic siege.
The blockade is a crime against humanity and a violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Geneva Conventions. The United Nations General Assembly condemns it every year. UN human rights experts explicitly condemned the blockade as “a grave violation of international law” and “an extreme form of unilateral economic coercion with extraterritorial effects.”
The United States, along with its subservient allies, remains morally and politically isolated from the rest of the world. Yet they persist because their goal was never law or justice, but the complete submission of the sovereign nation that dared to liberate itself.
We call on the working class, trade unions, and all progressive forces in Croatia and Europe to condemn this escalation of U.S. aggression against Cuba. The Government of the Republic of Croatia, the European Union, and all European countries must reject U.S. blackmail, resist the blockades, and establish normal trade and diplomatic relations with the Republic of Cuba.
We must organize concrete material and political assistance to help Cuba overcome this criminal siege: medical aid, fuel shipments, and diplomatic support.
We demand the immediate removal of Cuba from the U.S. State Department’s illegitimate list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The Cuban people have taught the world the meaning of dignity and resistance to imperialism. They have demonstrated that a world based on solidarity is not only possible, but is already being built.
The U.S. empire is becoming more brutal, but its time is running out.
The future belongs to socialism and the solidarity of the peoples of the world.
The people of Cuba will not and must not kneel before imperialist pressure!
