As a result of joint efforts between friends in solidarity with Cuba and Cubans residing in Canada, two containers, one from Montreal and the other from Toronto, will arrive on the Island in the coming days.
The container from Montreal will arrive with furniture to support a project at a pediatric hospital, materials for a research center in Havana, and 230 boxes of medical supplies.
From the Table de concertation de solidarité Québec – Cuba, they expressed gratitude for the numerous donations received and the solidarity work of everyone in carrying out this beautiful project: "This is our gesture of solidarity in support of Cuba against the nefarious effects of the criminal blockade by the United States! We will never surrender!"
The container from Toronto will arrive with essential supplies and medicines in the province of Granma, to benefit communities in the Cauto River basin that lost everything amidst the recent floods caused by Hurricane Melissa.
From the Association of Cubans Residing in Toronto "Juan Gualberto Gómez," they described the fundraising campaign, initiated as soon as news of Melissa's passage through the eastern part of Cuba became known, as "a complete success across Canada." They thanked all organizations and individuals who collaborated to enable this and other shipments in the near future.
"Once again, we demonstrate that united we can achieve great things, that there are no impossible goals for this small group of Cubans from Juan Gualberto Gómez, and that we will continue to break the blockade and support Cuba and our government at all times."
On the other hand, the Canadian Network on Cuba, an entity that brings together all solidarity organizations with the Island in Canada, stated they feel proud to stand by the Cuban people, not only in the face of the devastation caused by Melissa but also in their resistance to more than six decades of an illegal and unilateral blockade by the United States. They also announced the shipment of another container in the upcoming month of January.
