Lebanese and Palestinian graduates and Cuban citizens residing in Lebanon expressed today their support to the people of the largest of the Antilles after the fire in the industrial zone of the western city of Matanzas.

Through messages sent to the Cuban diplomatic mission in Beirut, the friends of solidarity conveyed their condolences to those affected and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident that left so far one person dead and 16 missing.

The president of the Friendship Association, Maurice Nohra, highlighted the confidence and capacity of the "Cuban brothers" to overcome any adversity or difficulty.

The "José Martí" Latin American Friendship Association regretted the human and material losses caused by the fire in the crude oil storage tanks in Matanzas and expressed its wishes for the fire to be controlled and extinguished as soon as possible.

In the words of its president Wafica Ibrahim, the Association ratified its heartfelt expressions of solidarity and support to the Antillean nation, an example of resistance for the countries of the world.

From the Venezuelan diplomatic headquarters in this capital, Ambassador Jesús Gregorio González expressed his condolences and the commitment of the Bolivarian Revolution to accompany the Cuban people in such a difficult situation.

By telephone, Gregorio commented to the charge d'affaires of the Antillean mission here, Jorge León, that Cuba deserves support because its solidarity has always been selfless and has been present at all times and in any circumstance.

Last Friday, the fire started in tank number 52 of the industrial zone of the capital of Matanzas as a result of the impact of an electric shock.
