Vienna, May 1, 2026.—The Austrian-Cuban Friendship Society (ÖKG) called for a march in support of Cuba as part of the celebrations for International Workers’ Day in Austria. In a joint initiative with the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), the Workers’ Party (PdA), and their youth organizations KJÖ and Jugendfront, this call was also extended to the cities of Graz, Salzburg, Linz, and Klagenfurt.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., supporters gathered in the Austrian capital and marched carrying Cuban flags and posters calling for an end to the blockade. They then set up an information booth in Sigmund Freud Park, where they distributed informational materials and spoke with participants about the reality on the island and the effects of the tightening of the blockade, particularly the energy blockade, which is worsening the living conditions of the Cuban people.
Members of these organizations repeated the actions in other Austrian cities, reaffirming the solidarity movement’s commitment to the Cuban cause against the backdrop of the escalation of unilateral coercive measures by the United States.
