Solidarity meeting with Cuba in Lebanon highlights Che's legacy and Cuba's resistance.
In a day of solidarity with Cuba, political forces and organizations from Lebanon and Palestine evoked today the historical legacy of the heroic guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara and the resistance of the Caribbean island.
Together with friends of the Lebanon-Cuba Friendship Association and the League of Palestinian graduates on the island, those present welcomed here the daughter of the Argentine-Cuban internationalist Dr. Aleida Guevara, and engineer Alfredo Deriche, former president of the Arab Union of Cuba (UAC) and the Federation of Arab Institutions in America (FEARAB).
At the opening of the event, Cuban chief of mission Jorge Leon Cruz thanked the Lebanese and Palestinians for their traditional support to the demand for the end of the US blockade against Cuba and the inclusion of the island in the spurious list of countries that sponsor terrorism, where it should never have been.
Aleida Guevara emphasized the need for unity among all Palestinians to defeat the enemy and build a nation of full social rights.
During her speech, she denounced the international double standards and offered her assessments on the current scenario, in the light of an understanding and progress towards multilateralism.
Before the country's political representatives, Aleida Guevara expressed her willingness to return next year to offer medical assistance in one of the Palestinian refugee camps in the Levantine country.
For his part, Deriche spoke about the current situation of the Palestinian people's struggle, condemned the impunity of Israeli crimes and defended cooperation to defeat the occupation and obtain freedom for Palestine.
On the occasion, the leaders of the political forces intervened to reaffirm their support for Cuba in the trenches against imperialism and the ambitions of the US-Israeli project.
At the same time, they highlighted the example of Che and his support to the Arab cause; in addition to highlighting his altruism and courage in favor of the freedom of the oppressed peoples.
In addition, they denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation for more than six decades by the United States.
In the dialogue, they expressed their gratitude for Cuba's position in defense of the struggle of the Palestinian people to achieve the sovereignty of their land, in the midst of Tel Aviv's continuous attacks, aggressions and violations.
The conversation brought together at the Cuban diplomatic mission the general secretaries of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Lebanese Communist Party, the Loyalty Party, the Loyalty Movement and the Palestinian Movement, the Loyalty Party, the Independent Nasserist Movement (Al-Mourabitoun), as well as the Palestinian Graduates League, the Lebanon-Cuba Friendship Association, the Palestine-Cuba Friendship Association and the Latin American Arab Solidarity Association.
Also present were Lebanese intellectuals and academics and activist-delegates from Argentina, Spain, Mexico and Belgium, who participated in parallel in the International Forum of the Global Meeting in support of the Resistance, and joined with their presence and participated in this meeting of solidarity with Cuba.
