Toronto, Canada, July 25, 2026. — The Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Network, the "Juan Gualberto Gómez" Association of Cuban Residents, and the Canada-Cuba Friendship Association in Toronto held a political and cultural event to mark the 73rd anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, a date that symbolizes the beginning of the final stage of Cuba's struggle for definitive independence.
The event brought together members of the Cuban community living in Canada, representatives of solidarity organizations, friends of Cuba, and members of the Latin American community, who paid tribute to one of the most significant dates in the contemporary history of the Cuban nation.
The program featured remarks by several speakers, including Víctor Manuel García Sánchez, Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, who addressed the historical significance of July 26 and the enduring legacy of the Generation of the Centennial, led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. He also referred to the Cuban people's resilience in the face of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States and expressed gratitude for the continued solidarity that Cuba receives from Canada.
The event also featured an artistic and cultural program with the participation of musicians and special guests, who offered performances inspired by Cuba's history, identity, and rich cultural heritage. The celebration included live music and provided an opportunity for friendly exchanges among those in attendance.
As part of the commemoration, participants enjoyed a selection of traditional Cuban cuisine, presented as an expression of the nation's identity and the hospitality that characterizes the Cuban people.
The celebration of the National Day of Rebellion in Toronto provided another opportunity to reaffirm the historic bonds of friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Canada, as well as the commitment of the organizing organizations to the defense of sovereignty, peace, social justice, and international solidarity.
